About Me
My Travel Blog
Hey, I’m Steffi, the creator behind Beach Bum Adventure. I live in Thailand and have done for 8 years.
I’m obsessed with the ocean, nature and all things adventure. I have previously lived in Thailand, the Maldives, Portugal and now Thailand again as of July 2021.
I’ve been living and travelling in Asia for the past 10 years and have visited many countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan.
Thailand Travel Blog
I started travel blogging about Thailand for two reasons.
Reason 1
Many friends and acquaintances would get in touch with me and often asked me very similar questions about wanting to visit Thailand so I created a blog with the aim of answering all those questions.
Reason 2
I also felt that many tourists were not fully appreciative of all the wonders of Thailand, many came to party, get drunk every night and sunbathe on a beautiful beach, while others associate visiting Thailand with sex workers and the seedy side of life here. While Thailand offers both those options, it is so much MORE.
Reasons I fell in love with Thailand
Thailand has amazing national parks full of waterfalls, wild elephants and animals. The ocean has some stunning coral reefs, whale sharks and exciting marine life for snorkellers and scuba divers.
Bangkok, is a huge, metropolitan city with delicious street food, relaxing massage parlours, fancy rooftop bars and amazing markets. Thailand is full of culture and history, with ancient temples, war memorials and museums.
It’s now my home for the second time and I’m excited to share more information with you, revisit my favourite islands and get to islands I haven’t visited yet!

Authentic Travel Blogs
I love reading travel blogs to research a place before I go there. Many travel bloggers will blog about Thailand, having spent a month in this county. I love to read blogs from people who actually live and work in a country, know the area really well and I feel my own personal blog reflects this. I only write about places I have actually visited and experiences I have done. Many of my blog posts are about Asia destinations that I have visited many times over!
Living in the Maldives
In 2018, I decided it was time for a change and I started teaching in the Maldives, a unique place where I feel there is so much more to discover than just honeymoon resorts.
I love visiting Maldives local islands which not only give you an authentic Maldivian experience but also means that you can visit the Maldives on a budget. So I shifted my focus to blogging about the Maldives on my travel blog, still adding posts to my Thailand blog as I was still going back to Thailand regularly (once Thailand is home, that feeling doesn’t go away!).
I would love tourists to realise the Maldives is more than a honeymoon destination and it is home to incredible islands, people and the marine life is out of this world. I spent a week doing the best diving of my life in this island (that nobody talks about!).

Solo Travel Blog
I also travel alone as a solo female traveller regularly and have visited Indonesia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka as a solo backpacker and therefore I wanted to share my experiences about travelling solo in Asia. I love reading travel blogs but unfortunately I found a lot of negative comments about travelling solo in places like India and Sri Lanka, by people who had never even done it! Even in Lonely Planet, I read that “women shouldn’t travel alone on trains in Sri Lanka” – then when I checked the authors- they were all men. So I started to share my experiences of travelling solo to encourage other women that we can and will travel solo and have amazing experiences while doing it!
Scuba Diving and Wildlife
I’m a wannabe mermaid and love nothing more than being underwater, which is why I became a qualified divemaster in Komodo National Park—one of the best places in the world for diving! I’ve now done over 300+ dives in over 6 different countries.
I’m obsessed with healthy coral reefs, spotting sharks (the friendliest creatures, honestly!), and sharing the magic of marine life with others. I also care deeply about protecting wildlife, both in the ocean and on land, and I’m passionate about promoting ethical travel.
From diving with manta rays or visiting nature reserves, I always aim to experience wildlife in a way that’s respectful and sustainable. I really hope travellers coming to Thailand and across Asia think twice before supporting things like elephant riding or animal shows—there are so many amazing, ethical ways to connect with nature that don’t harm the animals we love!

Moving to Thailand
I’ve moved to Thailand twice in my life and together with my American partner we are now helping others relocate to Thailand too! If you’ve ever visited Thailand it’s likely that you’ve wondered about what life is really like when you live here. I can tell you, moving to Thailand is the best decision I ever made!
If you want to know more than check out our free move to Thailand resources including a quiz and our very own How to Move to Thailand ebook.
Jason, a US expat, is on the digital nomad visa (DTV) and we kept getting asked loads of questions about moving here so we decided to write it all down to help future expats avoid the mistakes that we made! Moving here as a teacher is pretty easy, as a digital nomad it’s much more complicated so we wanted to take the stress out of your move!

Most importantly, I have this travel blog because I want to spread the love for Asia!
If you have any questions or want more help then please feel free to email me at steffi [at] beachbumadventure.com. I’m always happy to answer questions and love hearing that my blog helped travellers plan their Asia trips!
