Visiting Thailand? Here are my top 10 adventures and activities to try while exploring this incredible country. After living here for nearly 9 years, I’ve discovered the most exciting, authentic, and meaningful things to do beyond beach parties and Bangkok’s Khao San Road.

Visit an Ethical Elephant Sanctuary

Skip the elephant rides and support sanctuaries that rescue and care for these beautiful animals. I strongly recommend WFFT, just a couple of hours from Bangkok, which offers no riding and focuses on rescuing animals from abuse. Read more here about why you shouldn’t ride elephants and how to choose responsible sanctuaries.

Reasons to visit Thailand

Go Jungle Trekking in Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai is one of my favourite places in Thailand. Hike, camp, and spot wildlife like gibbons and wild elephants. It’s a perfect destination for nature lovers just a few hours from Bangkok. Read more here about Khao Yai and other nearby destinations.

If you’re keen to venture off the beaten path, check out my guide here to Thailand’s national parks and the adventures you can have there.

Party on a Paradise Island

Whether you want to soak up beach vibes on Koh Phi Phi or time your visit with a Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, Thailand has a party scene like no other. I’ve been to five Full Moon Parties and have tips here for how to make the most of it.

Visit a Bangkok Skybar

Skip the overpriced Lebua Sirocco Tower and check out Vertigo or Octave skybars instead. You’ll get the same stunning cityscape views with slightly more affordable cocktails.

Shop at Chatuchak Weekend Market

Open Saturdays and Sundays, Chatuchak is a shopping experience like no other. Get lost among thousands of stalls selling everything you can imagine. The best prices are often found in the center of the market rather than on the outer edges.

Visit a Buddhist Temple

No trip to Thailand is complete without seeing at least one temple. In Bangkok, I love Wat Pho for its enormous reclining Buddha and vibrant architecture. Heading north? Do not miss the stunning White Temple in Chiang Rai.

Eat All the Thai Food

From spicy street food to mango smoothies, Thailand’s cuisine is unforgettable. Try everything, but maybe skip the scorpions on Khao San Road unless you’re feeling brave.

Go on a Snorkelling Trip

Snorkelling is a must-do in Thailand. Most trips are full-day excursions with lunch stops on scenic islands. Just be aware that some tours add national park fees, so double-check when booking.
